Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
When a search box operated by an outside provider receives a name or date, the information is sent to that provider for processing. Its own privacy policy sets how the query is stored, used, or shared. The private reference service does not store or log search terms entered into a partner’s tool.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you email the site directly, the message may be kept so it can be read and answered. It is not shared outside the organization unless the law requires it. Court, Sheriff, and Police records requests should go to the official contact listed by that public office.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server or service provider may receive technical details about the visit. These can include:
- Internet Protocol address
- Browser and version
- Device type and operating system
- Pages viewed and time spent
- Referring website, when provided
- Date and time of the page request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies and analytics tools may help measure page use, traffic patterns, and technical errors. Browser settings can block cookies, though some site functions may then work differently. Analytics providers may process data on their own systems.
What We Do With This Data
Visitor data may be used to:
- Keep pages available and help them load reliably
- Route a search request to the outside partner that runs the tool
- Measure which information is useful to readers
- Find and repair technical problems
- Support advertising shown on a page
No Warrant Data on File
This service does not host or compile official warrant databases, lists of named people, or individual court files. Arlington County warrant records are held by the court, Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, or another public agency. Virginia FOIA applies to existing records held by public bodies, subject to exemptions; it does not require this private reference service to create a countywide warrant list.
The Virginia FOIA statute explains public-record requests. Arlington’s official court directory identifies the court offices that keep local files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Search tools on some pages are provided by outside companies. Information entered there is processed under the partner’s privacy policy, not this one. The partner controls its own data retention, security, and sharing practices. Read its terms before submitting information.
Virginia’s court case systems are separate public services with their own terms. Arlington’s General District Court result search and Virginia OCIS do not use the same record scope as a sponsored search provider.
Links to Other Websites
Pages may link to Arlington courts, Police and Sheriff offices, Virginia case systems, state laws, and federal court resources. Once you leave this site, the linked provider’s privacy notice governs that visit. Review its practices before entering personal information.
Advertising partners may use their own systems to measure activity across websites or select ads. That processing occurs under the partner’s terms.
Official local examples include the Sheriff FOIA page, the ACPD records page, and the Arlington courts directory.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold by this site. Information may be processed by service providers involved in operating pages or tools, including:
- Search partners that handle queries entered in their tools
- Analytics providers that measure traffic or performance
- Advertising networks that place sponsored content
- Government or law-enforcement bodies when a valid legal order requires disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect information handled by the service. No internet system can be guaranteed secure, and a provider’s controls are outside this site’s direction. Avoid sending sensitive details through a channel unless the receiving office confirms how it accepts them.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18. If information from a minor is brought to the operator’s attention, it will be reviewed and removed where possible. Juvenile court and police records in Virginia have separate legal privacy limits.
Virginia Code §16.1-301 generally restricts public access to juvenile law-enforcement records, subject to narrow exceptions. Arlington JDR matters should be directed to the court’s clerk or intake office, not shared in a public post.
Your Data Rights
Virginia’s Consumer Data Protection Act, Va. Code Chapter 53 of Title 59.1, gives certain rights when the law applies to a controller and the request can be authenticated. The law generally covers businesses that process data for at least 100,000 consumers, or at least 25,000 consumers while receiving over half of gross revenue from selling personal data. This policy does not claim that every outside provider or this service meets those thresholds.
Where the statute applies, Va. Code §59.1-577 describes rights to access, correct, delete, obtain a portable copy, and opt out of certain targeted advertising, sale, or profiling. A request should go to the controller that holds the data. Virginia FOIA applies to records held by public bodies, not private providers.
Updates to This Policy
Privacy terms may change as services, laws, and site practices change. An updated version will appear here with a revised effective date. Check the notice again before submitting personal details to a search partner or public office.
